Just Finished Reading: The Kite runner

The Kite runner, Khaled Hoseini’s debut novel is a great piece of fiction set in Afganistan covering the 70s till recent times in the backdrop of war, Taliban, etc. At many sections of the book I found myself crying. Its story is really touching and will sadden you. It’s the story about two childhood friends Amir and Hassan in Afganistan who separate and how one of them comes back quarter of a century later to find his native place turned upside down. The book provides a slice of Afghanistan history.
For me (as it would be for many of you) the book was a revelation since I knew very little about Afganistan, its culture, customs, its cities like Kabul and how it changed completely. Whatever little people like me know are through television and press after 9/11 when the U.S. waged a war against the Taliban and Hamid Karzai’s government was installed.
A must read for anyone who wants to know more about Afganistan. Moreover in itself the book is a thrilling narrative with drama, suspense, sex, scandal, family secrets and love coursing through its pages. Read a great book after a long time!
